The Ape Army, popularly known as OG or Orangutan Gaming, has showcased its formidable skills in the recently concluded Valorant Challengers South Asia Split 1, a collaborative effort by Nodwin Gaming and Riot Games. The team achieved an impressive feat, emerging as champions without losing a single game throughout the entire tournament. In a remarkable Grand Finals showdown on April 23, OG secured a 3-0 victory against Gods Reign, solidifying their position as the tournament’s winners.
Commencing on March 18, 2023, Valorant Challengers South Asia Split 1 initiated with online qualifiers. From the open qualifiers, three teams progressed to the League Stage, where they faced seven invited teams. The ten teams were divided into two groups, each comprising five teams, competing in the League Stage. Orangutan Gaming maintained an undefeated record during this stage, claiming the top spot in Group B with a remarkable +48 points. This exceptional performance propelled them into the playoffs, ultimately leading to their triumphant victory in the tournament.
Valorant Challengers South Asia Split 1 – Orangutan Gaming Shines with Ultimate Dominance
Here are the teams that have made it to the playoffs.
- Group A – Velocity Gaming, Gods Reign, True Rippers
- Group B – Orangutan Gaming, Aster Army, Reckoning Esports
The playoffs were set to take place following a double-elimination bracket with BO3 rounds. The table toppers, OG and Velocity Gaming have moved to the Upper Bracket Semi-Finals and the bottom two teams from each group had to fight in the UB quarter-finals. OG have paved their way to the Finals directly by beating Reckoning and True Rippers in the UB Semi-finals and finals respectively.
Gods Reign, on the other hand, had a quite complicated way to reach the finals. They had to defeat Velocity Gaming, Aster Army, and True Rippers in the Lower-bracket Quarterfinals, Semi-finals, and Finals respectively after losing to Reckoning in the UB quarter-finals. They finally moved to the Finals locking horns with the most dominant team of the tournament – Orangutan.
During the Best-of-five Grand Finals, OG clean sweep Gods Reign with a 3-0 scoreline and walked away as the champions while receiving $14000 prize money in the $40000 event. All the teams that have been qualified for Playoffs have earned a spot in Valorant Challengers South Asia Split 2 which is set to commence soon.
