Masala Games has announced a new cooperative feature for its upcoming detective game, Detective Dotson. According to the official Xbox blog, the feature lets two players to join forces together and solve mysteries together.
Detective Dotson is a single-player mystery adventure game set in modern-day Indian towns. Players take the role of Detective Dotson, who must solve riddles manage a diverse group of personalities and solve his father’s murder mystery. Most of these detective games are traditionally known for solo adventures, and this new mode will enhance the gaming experience.
Detective Dotson Gets a New Co-Op Mode
While the initial buzz about Detective Dotson hinted at a single-player adventure, the new Xbox footage unveiled an unexpected twist: co-op mode. Masala Games wondered aloud, “How come more detective games don’t have co-op? After all, every Sherlock needs a Watson.” Thus, the cooperative aspect was formed.
This feature, specifically designed for two players, allows gamers to team up and tackle cases together, each with their own specially crafted levels. Players can select from an array of characters, like the suave super-cop Durai and the intrepid reporter Jotson, each with unique abilities that are essential for solving crimes.
The co-op mode aims to encourage player interaction, requiring strategic cooperation, such as distracting guards or using character-specific talents to overcome obstacles.
The co-op experience is enhanced by a dynamic split-screen system. When you and your friend are close, the screen remains whole. But as you move apart, it splits, indicating that action is unfolding in two different places simultaneously. Think of it as a cinematic heist movie unfolding right on your couch.
Masala Games acknowledges the support of the ID@Xbox Developer Accelerator Program (DAP). Bringing Detective Dotson to the console wouldn’t have been possible without their trust.
Detective Dotson was initially unveiled for PC earlier in this year with a targeted Q4 2024 release. A Playable demo is still available on Steam. Recently, it was announced that the game will also hit Xbox Series X/S in early 2025.
