Atlusโ latest RPG, Metaphor: ReFantazio, has officially surpassed one million copies sold worldwide on its launch day, marking a major milestone for the publisher Sega. This achievement positions the game as the fastest-selling title in Atlusโ history, even outpacing the highly anticipated Persona 3 Reload, which reached the same milestone within its first week.
Metaphor: ReFantazio, which was released globally on October 11, has quickly climbed the ranks of Steamโs most-played games, peaking at 55,099 concurrent players at the time of writing. As the weekend approaches, and with more fans from different regions gaining access, these numbers are expected to rise even higher. While PlayStation and Xbox user statistics are not publicly available, it’s likely the sales figure will continue to grow rapidly across all platforms, potentially reaching two million soon.
The game blends traditional RPG elements with modern gameplay mechanics, offering a unique and engaging experience. It features a hybrid battle system that combines turn-based encounters with real-time action combat, reminiscent of previous Atlus RPGs. Additionally, the game incorporates social simulation elements, allowing players to build relationships with NPCs and influence the world around them.
Metaphor: ReFantazio was first announced under the codename Project Re: Fantasy in December 2016, with more details revealed in 2023. The game was officially unveiled during Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase in June 2023 and was subsequently released for Windows and Xbox Series X/S.
As part of its promotional campaign, Sega offered a unique opportunity to UK fans: the chance to become a member of the royal family of Sealand, the world’s smallest (but unofficially recognized) country.
