The developers behind The Day Before, Fntastic have announced that it is cancelling its failing Kickstarter and announced a new game. Their recent Kickstarter campaign to raise money for a new game called Escape Factory failed miserably, raising only 15.73% of the $20,000 target. Here are more details.
Fntastic Pauses Development for Escape Factory Indefinitely and Gets onto a New Game
The team behind Fantastic has announced that the game’s funding campaign was operated under Kickstarter’s ‘all-or-nothing’ model. According to the funding model, if the project did not reach its targeted goal, no funds would be collected from the backers. Therefore, the investors will get their money back.
Despite their struggles, the studio announced a new game in development—Items, an “action-horror prop hunt” title. This new game is similar in concept to Propnight, one of Fntastic’s previous titles, which had garnered positive feedback before the developers lost the rights to it. In an effort to meet community demand, Items aims to deliver the same kind of thrilling, multiplayer experience, but this time with a more focused vision from the studio.

While no demo or trailer for Items has been released yet, Fntastic remains optimistic. They have hinted that a Kickstarter campaign might be launched once a playable demo is ready. The company is also looking into other fundraising options, such as releasing mobile games to generate revenue for Items. It is also assured that the money generated from these mobile releases would go directly towards the game development.
This strategy shows that Fntastic intends to continue operating independently and relying mostly on community support despite having lost a great deal of trust following the debacle surrounding The Day Before. Once a highly anticipated survival MMO, The Day Before saw its reputation crumble after a series of delays, allegations of asset theft, and controversies regarding the use of unpaid workers. Upon its eventual release in December 2023, the game was greeted with severe criticism and eventually fell short of user expectations, garnering infamously negative reviews overall.

Given these difficulties, it appears that Fntastic will have a difficult time reestablishing community confidence. In previous marketing campaigns, they were accused of being dishonest and even plagiarizing, which led to negative parallels to popular games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Cyberpunk 2077. Fntastic maintains its fortitude in the face of these attacks, stating that they are committed to making its vision a reality.
After over ten years of game development, California-based independent studio Thunderhorse has formally announced its closure. Founded by Simon Filip in 2015, Thunderhorse Studio announced the closure on social media, citing the “difficult decision” to close for the “long-term health of the team and the studio.”
Thunderhorse Studio became well-known over time for its distinctive 2D games that drew inspiration from the aesthetics of 1990s video games. In its first year of operation, the studio released mobile hits such as Samurai Blitz and Raccoon Rascals. In 2021, it released Flynn: Son of Crimson, its first big console game published by Humble Games and funded by Kickstarter.

Flynn: Son of Crimson
The team reflected on their journey, which was full of “passion, creativity, and most of all, the chance to connect with all of you,” and thanked the gaming community for their support. The conclusion signifies the end of their upcoming title Ronin Rush, a vibrant, retro-style sequel to Samurai Blitz that has now most likely been cancelled.
The news from Thunderhorse Studio also highlights the continuous challenges faced by the video game sector. Thunderhorse’s collapse serves as a reminder that even smaller, independent companies are vulnerable to the severe conditions of game development, even if larger AAA firms have seen a number of layoffs and studio closures in recent years. The team’s difficult choice resulted from “a number of challenges and development hurdles,” despite its best efforts.
Thunderhorse’s closure represents the uncertain future that many independent creators face as the game industry keeps evolving. The studio, which is renowned for its creativity and commitment, will live on in the memory of the lively experiences it offered gamers and its lasting impact on the indie gaming industry.
In their final message to fans, Studio Thunderhorse said, “We are endlessly grateful for the support, love, and memories you’ve shared with us. Thank you for being part of our story, it’s one we’ll cherish forever.”
In the spirit of Halloween, the No Man’s Sky development team has delivered a spine-chilling surprise for players on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation VR. After a serene update featuring fishing, the new update, The Cursed, is set to deliver a much darker and eerie experience, shaking up the peaceful gameplay with unsettling and mysterious challenges. Check out more details below.
New No Man’s Sky Update – The Cursed is Now Live
This new update will introduce a strange, disorienting gameplay event set in a twilight universe where time itself becomes unstable. Players will have to navigate through this ever-shifting world, battling ghostly forces and hearing haunting voices from other realities.
1 of 5
Players will make use of the Boundary Herald Starship, a striking Giger-inspired flying saucer to survive in this unsettling realm. Alongside this new starship, players’ exosuits will feature an Anomaly Suppressor, a vital tool that helps maintain the stability of reality. These haunted environments are inhabited by spectral anomalies, which are ghostly beings. Some may attack with a ferocity never seen in No Man’s Sky, while others may just watch.
Another novel feature in The Cursed is that players are unable to switch between star systems using hyperdrive technology. Instead, they have to navigate the galaxy with caution using the ancient portal network.
To make things good, the game will offer players exclusive rewards such as a Horror Exosuit customization reminiscent of Cthulhu, bioluminescent pets, and the ultimate prize: the UFO-like Boundary Herald Starship. These limited-time rewards will only be available during this two-week event.
The Cursed is the sixth major update for No Man’s Sky this year and it is now live for all PC, Xbox and PlayStation players for free. The developers have hinted at even more surprises in the coming weeks, including an update specifically designed to take full advantage of the PlayStation 5 Pro’s power.

Alan Wake 2: The Lake House is the second expansion for Remedy Entertainment’s acclaimed 2023 survival horror game. Just a few days before its release, we were treated to a new trailer at Xbox Partner Preview showcasing the DLC’s chilling atmosphere and terrifying new threats.
The developers have also revealed that The Lake House pushes the boundaries of horror, with its immersive gameplay and unsettling environments. Additionally, the expansion deepens the connection to Remedy’s classic game Control, featuring familiar characters and exploring themes that tie the two stories together.
Read on to know how the new expansion will intensify the horror in Alan Wake 2.
This new chapter, which will be released on October 22, introduces players to Agent Kiran Estevez of the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), who will be investigating the mysterious Lake House, a research facility situated at the notorious Cauldron Lake.
The Lake House, which is described as a true survival horror experience, connects Alan Wake 2 to the broader Remedy Connected Universe and to Remedy’s other well-known game, Control, in addition to giving the game more depth.
The Lakehouse is a Parallel Storyline
The Lake House, which is set in the initial stages of Alan Wake 2, follows the journey of Saga Anderson, the main game’s co-protagonist. “The Lake House tells the story of Agent Estevez’s visit to the Lake House facility, which takes place in parallel with the early part of Saga’s story,” says lead writer Clay Murphy. With this approach, the expansion can enhance the game’s world without interfering with the core plot, which Remedy refers to as “a spiral, not a loop.”
The Lake House takes a darker tone than Night Springs, the first expansion, which focused on experimental “What If?” scenarios. “With The Lake House, we wanted to again lean into the horror side of things,” says Kyle Rowley, game director at Remedy, providing players with a more dramatic survival horror experience that is reminiscent of the main game’s spine-tingling Valhalla Nursing Home segment.
Expanding the Remedy Universe
The Lake House’s connection to Remedy’s spooky action-adventure game Control is a significant aspect. In this expansion, the spooky, otherworldly aspects of Control are brought to the forefront by Agent Estevez, who briefly appears in Alan Wake 2. Drawing on the horror themes of Control, the game presents a new enemy while hinting at a potential connection to Dylan Faden, a pivotal figure in Control. The production team says fans should “explore every nook and cranny” of The Lake House for hints, although they are reluctant to reveal how deep these links go.
New Threats: The Painted
Players will come across a new kind of opponent as they delve deeper into the atrocities of The Lake House: The Painted. These terrible creatures can travel through magical paint on surfaces and deal lethal melee attacks. They are the result of an artistic “Overlap”—where reality and art mix. The Painted reflects the fantastical, artistic horrors that predominate at the Lake House facility, continuing Remedy’s careful approach to thematic enemy design.
Agent Estevez: A Fresh Perspective
In contrast to Saga and Alan, Estevez contributes a unique set of abilities. She is uniquely equipped to handle the difficulties presented by Cauldron Lake’s paranormal powers because she is an experienced FBC agent and is familiar with the paranormal. In order to combat the more supernatural foes players may come across in The Lake House, Estevez has added a new weapon to his armoury that is exclusive to FBC. With weapons that are a little more potent than Saga’s loadout, her talents offer a novel gameplay experience and give players a small advantage over the relentless Taken opponents.
The mission structure also aligns more closely with classic survival horror. “There is a large open structure for the player to explore, secrets to discover, and dangerous enemies to try and survive against,” says Rowley. The narrative remains a key component, with Estevez’s insights adding additional context through scattered notes that enhance the player’s understanding of the events unfolding around them.
Maybe a Base for Future Expansion
The Lake House may serve as a base for further expansions or possibly a teaser for the much-anticipated Control sequel, according to fans of Remedy’s connected universe. “Let’s just say that we’re as excited as anyone to see how the story of the Faden siblings unfolds in the future,” teases Remedy’s communications manager, Miika Huttunen.
Fans of Alan Wake 2 should not miss The Lake House expansion because it combines dangerous new opponents, a compelling story, and deeper connections to the larger Remedy universe.
Alan Wake 2: The Lake House DLC will be released on October 22 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
The third Xbox Partner Preview has delivered a thrilling showcase, unveiling 15 upcoming titles set to arrive on Xbox Series X/S, Game Pass, and PC. Lenovo LOQ (12th Gen Intel Core i5) 2024 Review: The Lenovo LOQ series has become a popular choice for gamers and content creators seeking an affordable yet reliable laptop. Introduced last year, it continues to offer excellent value without breaking the bank.
Powered by a 12th Gen Intel Core i5 processor and NVIDIA’s RTX 3050 (6GB), this device aims to deliver solid gaming performance while maintaining a budget-friendly profile. We have tested the device in terms of design, performance, display, and other aspects and here is an in-depth review.
The design of the Lenovo LOQ draws inspiration from Lenovo’s higher-end Legion series, featuring sharp lines and a durable plastic chassis. While it sits in the budget category, the overall build feels solid and dependable, despite some minor flex in the chassis and a slightly wobbly hinge. Moreover, it can flip up to 180 degrees. Nevertheless, the Lenovo LOQ offers excellent quality for professionals and gamers looking for a reliable, well-built laptop at a reasonable cost.
Its 2.38 kg weight might feel less convenient for frequent travellers. However, for a gaming laptop, this weight is fairly standard, as the hardware is typically more robust compared to regular laptops.
The laptop’s design exudes a premium feel, and its matte finish on the back adds a sleek touch that’s sure to catch your eye. There are two external air vents on the backside which expells hot air out. A camera on/off button on the right side lets you access your webcam instantly.
Display
The Lenovo LOQ packs a 15.6-inch Full HD IPS display with a 144Hz refresh rate – which is a notable feature in this budget segment. While the display delivers decent colours and brightness for gaming, the colour accuracy might not be the best for content creators or professionals requiring precise colour grading. The 144Hz refresh rate, however, ensures smooth gameplay, particularly in fast-paced games where high frame rates are key.
The brightness is good enough for indoor usage. When it comes to outdoors, it seems somewhat low, but it is decent enough to use.

Keyboard, Trackpad and I/O Ports
The Lenovo LOQ features a full-sized, backlit keyboard with decent key travel and feedback. While it may not match the tactile feel of mechanical keyboards found on premium gaming laptops, it offers a comfortable typing experience for a budget device.
The backlighting is a nice addition, but it lacks customization options in other models at this price range. The button-less trackpad is large and responsive, supporting multi-touch gestures, but its plasticky feel can make it slightly less satisfying to use. However, the off-centre positioning helps minimize accidental touches while typing, which is a thoughtful design choice.
Speaking of connectivity and I/O port options, here is a breakdown
Ports (Back Side)
Charging Port, 1x HDMI® 2.1, up to 8K/60Hz , 1x Ethernet (RJ-45), 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A,

Performance
In this ever-evolving AI era, Lenovo has made this an AI-powered Gaming laptop. Powered by the LA1 AI chip, the Lenovo AI+ engine simplifies your gaming and productivity experience.
Now, onto the core specs—this laptop is powered by a 12th-generation Intel Core i5-12450HX processor paired with an NVIDIA RTX 3050 GPU with 6GB of VRAM, providing a noticeable boost to the gaming experience. While the RTX 3050 is considered an entry-level GPU in the NVIDIA RTX series, it delivers more than enough power to handle most modern games at medium to high settings, all at a smooth 1080p resolution.
The RTX 3050 leverages NVIDIA’s Ampere architecture, which includes DLSS and ray-tracing capabilities, enhancing the gaming experience with better visuals and performance, especially in supported titles.
In real-world usage, the laptop breezed through normal tasks like Chrome browsing with multiple tabs open, highlighting its capability to manage multitasking effortlessly. When it comes to gaming, the Lenovo LOQ maintains smooth frame rates in graphically demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Call of Duty: Warzone on medium settings. For less intensive games such as Valorant, the laptop excels at high settings, where its 144Hz display truly shines, providing a fluid and responsive gaming experience. With 16GB of RAM, the system also handles multitasking and heavier applications like Adobe Premiere without hiccups.
The RTX 3050 doesn’t just benefit gamers—it’s also a great option for budget-conscious creative professionals. Its power extends to video editing, 3D modelling, and other GPU-accelerated tasks, making it a versatile tool for creators. The 512GB SSD offers fast load times, although storage may feel limited for users with large game libraries or extensive creative projects.
Lenovo LOQ does a decent job of managing heat. The dual fans and ventilation system work efficiently, though, during prolonged gaming sessions, you may notice some heat buildup near the WASD keys and the palm rest area. Despite this, the fans perform well overall, and our tests showed minimal thermal throttling, ensuring that the laptop maintains consistent performance under pressure.
For optimal performance, it’s recommended to game in a room with air conditioning or a cool temperature to help manage heat more effectively. For users who plan to game extensively, investing in a cooling pad could be beneficial to maintain peak performance. Cooling pads provide additional airflow, which helps keep the laptop’s temperature in check, ensuring consistent performance and prolonging the laptop’s longevity during demanding gaming tasks.
In short, the Lenovo LOQ delivers impressive performance for both gamers and creatives, with the RTX 3050 GPU driving the system’s ability to handle demanding workloads at a competitive price.
Features and Audio
The Lenovo LOQ comes equipped with a 720p webcam featuring a physical privacy shutter, a welcome feature in today’s laptops. However, the webcam’s quality is only decent and struggles in low-light conditions, appearing grainy unless you’re in a well-lit environment like a hotel room. It’s fine for basic video calls or casual streaming, but don’t expect stellar performance in dim settings.
The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro features Nahimic Audio by Steelseries, delivering immersive 3D audio with surround sound, night mode, sound tracker, and sound-sharing capabilities. While the built-in 2 x 2W speakers with Nahimic Audio provide decent sound quality for general use, they may not match the depth and richness offered by external speakers or headphones, especially for critical listening or gaming. For gamers seeking the best audio experience, headphones are highly recommended.
One standout feature is the inclusion of 3 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, allowing access to hundreds of games. New titles are added weekly, with Black Ops 6 and Indiana Jones expected to join the Game Pass later this year—two of the most anticipated AAA releases. This adds great value for gamers looking to explore a wide variety of games without extra cost.
Battery Life and Charging
The battery performance on the Lenovo LOQ is typical for a gaming laptop. While it charges fairly quickly, battery life is less impressive. During light usage—like browsing the web, streaming, or working on documents—it performs reasonably well, lasting around 4 to 5 hours. However, during gaming sessions, the battery drains much faster, often dropping significantly in just 30 minutes of gameplay. Even when plugged in while gaming, the battery barely charges, increasing by just 1% to 5% during intensive sessions.
For non-gaming tasks, like internet use or streaming, the battery holds up better, but if you’re gaming, expect to rely heavily on the 170W charger for extended play. The Lenovo LOQ features rapid charging, which can boost the battery from 0 to around 70-80% in just 30 minutes, and a full charge takes about 60 minutes. You can enable or disable this feature in Lenovo Vantage, and if rapid charging is turned off, the charging process may take a bit longer.
Pros:
The affordable price point for a gaming laptop
12th Gen Intel Core i5 and RTX 3050 offer strong gaming and productivity performance
144Hz refresh rate for smooth gameplay
Cons:
Battery life is short during gaming
Excessive hotspots are built around the keypad area during long gaming sessions.
Audio Quality could be better.
Verdict
The Lenovo LOQ is an excellent option if you’re looking for a gaming laptop under ₹55K that offers great value. With its 144Hz refresh rate display, NVIDIA RTX 3050 GPU with 6GB VRAM, and 12th Gen Intel i5 processor, it delivers solid performance for both gaming and creative work. Moreover, the laptop has been bought for Rs 51K during the Great Indian Festival Sale.
However, there are some drawbacks to consider. The laptop tends to overheat in a room without AC, and the webcam’s quality is subpar, especially in low-light conditions. Additionally, the audio quality is average and may not meet the needs of gamers who typically rely on headphones.
Despite these limitations, the Lenovo LOQ is a well-rounded, budget-friendly choice for casual gamers and creative professionals. Its performance and features make it a strong contender in its price range, offering excellent value for those on a tight budget.
Atlus’ latest RPG, Metaphor: ReFantazio, has officially surpassed one million copies sold worldwide on its launch day, marking a major milestone for the publisher Sega. This achievement positions the game as the fastest-selling title in Atlus’ history, even outpacing the highly anticipated Persona 3 Reload, which reached the same milestone within its first week.
Metaphor: ReFantazio, which was released globally on October 11, has quickly climbed the ranks of Steam’s most-played games, peaking at 55,099 concurrent players at the time of writing. As the weekend approaches, and with more fans from different regions gaining access, these numbers are expected to rise even higher. While PlayStation and Xbox user statistics are not publicly available, it’s likely the sales figure will continue to grow rapidly across all platforms, potentially reaching two million soon.

As part of its promotional campaign, Sega offered a unique opportunity to UK fans: the chance to become a member of the royal family of Sealand, the world’s smallest (but unofficially recognized) country.

System Requirements
To ensure smooth gameplay, Rockstar has released the minimum and recommended system requirements for PC players:
After months of anticipation and uncertainty, BioWare’s highly anticipated RPG, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is finally set to make its debut in the Indian market. The game will soon be available for pre-order in India on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, before its release on October 31. However, the game’s journey to Indian shores has been anything but straightforward.
Initially, the game was briefly available for pre-order on Steam in India but was subsequently removed due to what EA claimed were “local Ratings Board” issues. This was despite India adhering to the PEGI and ESRB rating systems.
Following this, pre-orders for the console versions appeared on local retail channels but were then mysteriously pulled. This led to confusion and frustration among fans who were eager to secure their copies of the game.

In September, EA confirmed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard would indeed launch in India and Turkey, but only for PC gamers on Steam. However, just last week, the game’s official Twitter account revealed that console versions would also be available in India.
For PC gamers, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been available on Steam, with the base game priced at ₹2,999 and the Deluxe Edition at ₹4,699. The delay in the console pre-orders has left fans puzzled, and EA has yet to provide clarity on the issue.
This isn’t the first time the Dragon Age series has faced difficulties in India. The franchise’s previous title, Dragon Age: Inquisition, was never officially released in the country. With Dragon Age: The Veilguard now set to launch on October 31, Indian fans can only hope that the console versions will follow suit soon.
For PC players, the game is available to pre-order for Rs 2,999 whereas its deluxe edition pre-order would charge Rs 4,699.
