Microsoft has announced that Xbox is testing an updated friends and followers feature for Xbox Insiders. This preview, available on Xbox consoles and Windows PCs, introduces several new features, including the ability to send friend requests, customize privacy settings, and adjust notification preferences.
Xbox is Getting Friend Requests, Privacy and Notification Settings
The update marks the return of friend requests, enabling users to submit, accept, and remove them with ease. Friends now represent a mutually accepted connection, allowing users more control and freedom over their social activities. In contrast, following remains a one-way connection, enabling users to stay updated on stuff posted by others, such as players, clubs, or games.
Existing friends and followers will receive automatic updates under the new arrangement. Users’ previous connections will be kept, including friend statuses and following relationships. To manage friends and followers on an Xbox console, click the Xbox button to enter the guide, then browse to the People tab to see, accept, and send friend requests. The same feature is accessible on Windows PCs, and handheld devices, and will be added to more devices in the future.
In addition to social management features, the update includes additional privacy and notification options. Users may choose who can submit friend requests or follow their account and set notification preferences. These settings can be adjusted directly from the Xbox console by going to Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety > Xbox privacy, then View details & customize > Friends, followers, and Clubs. You can also update your notification preferences on Xbox consoles from Settings > Preferences > Notifications.
Online management is also available through the Privacy & online safety section by signing in and customizing settings.
